Sophie Smrcka is a Scenic and Projections designer based in the DC metro area and
working regionally across America. She is known for working as an intentional and
immersive artist, with previous experience on stages of all sizes - from blackbox to
LORT levels. Sophie holds an MFA in Scenic and Digital Media Design from the
University of Tennessee - Knoxville, and BAs in Theatre and Communications from the
University of Denver. As a designer, Sophie is most passionate about stories that
consider the human condition, what it means to be alive, and our impact on the world
around us. She seeks to lift up the stories of people who are less understood,
under-served, and under-represented. She believes that the people should be the
biggest and most important thing onstage. She also believes that the people are the
most important part of the process, and collaboration with the team is hugely valuable to
theatrical art. Outside of her theatrical pursuits, Sophie loves running, her two gorgeous
cats, a good cup of coffee, and a good book.
